Dance class with Mom & Dad- 13th June 2014

DANCE 

Today's attraction was dance as the parents of group I came to enjoy the dance activity with their little champs. The children were so excited that each one of them performed to the best level. Mom & Dad were following the steps of young dancers, this class was specially conducted to have fun during the class and the parents to understand how the class is conducted.

ICT

Group I created their avatars using the “Cute Avatar” app on the iPads. They also had something to say about their avatars, which was added through speech bubbles later. 




Group II wrapped up their coding tutorials with much reluctance. We hope they continue with them on their own through the www.code.org website.

Design & Technology

Design & Technology group has accomplished their target of making clock...... It will be displayed tomorrow at Showcase Day.

Music & Drama continued with their rehearsals for the showcase day. Drama had dress rehearsals on stage & music also had rehearsals on stage with full swing...

Rediscovering Minds 11th & 12th June 2014

VISUAL ARTS

We all have worked on symmetry art. On circular paper we draw our self-portrait. On top of the portrait  draw different caricature using multicolor sketch pens.

Tracing our own hand then cut & paste on different colour paper using scissors and glue we did colorful paper collage.

Children are enjoying new apps on iPads.Group I kids were introduced to the Puppet Pals app on the iPads. It is a great storytelling tool for their age group. They will be working in pairs tomorrow to create their unique stories. 

In Group II, Nikhil and Trisha are almost done with their movies on Rediscovering Minds. All the three kids were introduced to the basics of command programming through a tutorial “An Hour of Code” on http://code.org/learn . Surprisingly, they were super excited about programming, just for the simple reason that they had to make their “Angry Bird” reach the “Bad Piggy” using the commands. They will be completing all the 20 levels tomorrow. 

Design & Technology


Design & technology team of children has joined the boxes and coming near to accomplish their target of making clock..... They painted the boxes and were waiting it to dry up and fun by that time. 

INDOOR SPORTS

"Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence". 

The students are developing more skill through practice of different swimming skills. And they are enjoying in swimming as well as other indoor sports.




MUSIC

"Music can change lives. whether you are having a good or bad day, the power of music can change one's mood".

 Rehearsals are on full swing for final day, children are in working hard to perform well...........  


DANCE

  
Young Dancers

The kids involved themselves actively in learning simple concepts around ballet, jazz and creative movement. Young dancers learnt to move effortlessly through space and understanding movement possibilities. Regular pattern of the dance class involved stretches and basic isolation workouts essential to enable dancers to move various body parts swiftly.




Students are encouraged to understand movement concepts and ask questions regarding the same. Week 2 of the dance workshop revolves around the concept of Teaching methods and learning activities that encourage students to recognize the value and relevance of what they are learning and hence goes a long way towards motivating students to work and to learn effectively.
  
DRAMA



Group 1: Enacted out stories  Mimi the kitten, the Lost Monkey, the Purple Turtle. They had fun becoming different characters and making out various noises of animals.......

Group 2- Improvisations-explored comedy, explored tragedy, explored suspense & mystery.

Rediscovering Minds - 9th & 10th June

VISUAL ARTS



What is complimentary  colours that we learnt & used it in geometrical shapes. Each student chose any one geometrical shape & draw it in different scales. Then they apply two complimentary colours on paper & finished it. 
We learnt 3d paper craft butterfly.  Students apply different colors sketch pens  and draw their emotional  attachment on top up the surface and  also we learn how to cut & paste  neatly  .

Group I had a “Play Day”, where they were given a choice to choose whichever game/app they wanted to use. Everyone had a great time playing their favorite games. They all wished we could have a “Play Day” everyday, but these are only very infrequent treats given to them once in a while. 


In Group II, two of the students are done with their one minute commercial advertisements.

·         Oorjit is still in the process of giving finishing touches to his ad.

Nikhil and Trisha also became the “Techie Reporters” for the next two days. They are going around all classes going on for Rediscovering Minds, and capture stills and videos of the activities. They might also wish to take a few interviews. They plan on putting together a movie to sum up the whole summer camp experience. We will definitely keep you updated on their progress. 

Group I also created finger puppets today. They started off with the tedious task of clicking pictures of their index fingers. They went on to convert their fingers into puppets by using the “Animal Fingers” app on the iPads. They also gave creative names to their puppets.

Students finished their filing work and they started joining  the square box using PVA glue. Students  made sketches on a paper using steel ruler and free hand sketching for the front part of the clock.
The joining process will be continue in next lesson and they will move for painting process.




MUSIC

Group I has explored drum kit by playing snare and bass drums, they did percussion instruments and song - ‘sun is shining on my head’ and vocal exercises. They love playing music and statue too.



Group II has started practicing for their solo performances on Drums and group performance on Guitar.

DANCE

Dancers had lots of fun while preparing for the showcase day..... these young dancers are eager to perform in front of their parents as audience.Children of both the groups are getting prepared for final day that is the showcase day. The songs & music has been selected for the performance. 

DRAMA

"Acting gives you a story to tell, a reason to cry, and lets you for once be someone other than yourself". Gorgie Roman

Young actors are preparing themselves seriously to perform on the stage in front of the audience that is their parents..... Different short stories is what the group I is focusing on and group II is paying more concentration on dialogue delivery, command on language and expressions as a part of acting. But in all this serious work, fun is not separated.  






INDOOR SPORTS

    The number of children swimming independently has increased from the first day of camp till now. Now children are able to swim 20 meters of distance non stop. There is still time to work on their endurance.....

Rediscovering Minds 6th June

DANCE

I dance because, there's no greater feeling in the world than moving to a piece of music and letting the rest of the world disappear. 
In dance both groups are perfecting the acquired dance steps, sometimes on Bollywood and sometimes on Hollywood numbers. The dance room always rocks..... nobody can stop the feet to move on the music played.    


DRAMA

In Drama both the younger group is enjoying story telling an playing characters, whereas the the elder group is busy with their story building and analysis of the same. Group II is also acting on self made dramas.......





Design and Technology


Students developed their cutting and filing skills to create a square box using coping saw and smooth flat file.
Students worked hard on their project  with filed  pieces and  finally were  ready to create a square box .
 In the next session students will learn about  the Joining process.



ICT


Group I used the Drawing Tool on the iPads to make anything of their choice. They also got their first taste of voice recording when they talked about their pictures using Sonic Pix.

MUSIC



Group I has revised entire week’s learning and they did art work drawing musical instruments and more & Group II has revised entire week’s learning by playing Drums, playing Guitar chords and percussion instruments. They also did art work as part of their reflections on what they have learnt so far, what they like and what they want to learn more.
 



INDOOR SPORTS

Children of both the groups are enjoying in the water. They are improving their basic skills, few of them are working on  their stroke techniques. Badminton, Chess, and Squash are still attractions for few children.

Splash Time At Swimming Pool - 5th June.

INDOOR SPORTS

Age does't matter, as we see water we feel like to dive in it even if you don't know how to swim. Water Sports was one attraction today at the pool side for the young champs. They had great time splashing in the water. 
As the children get bored of daily teaching routine, it was a big surprise for them as they actually had recreation time in their swimming class. 

DANCE

"There are shortcuts to happiness, and dancing is one of them".

DRAMA


The children were given a situation of  "Jungle" and they were asked to act like one animal each, so there were peacocks, tigers, alligators, elephants and Lion the king, and they made noises for the same.
The next theme was given "The Beach" and the young actors became dolphins, fishes, sharks, swimmers, fisherman........ they had fun time acting something apart from what they are.




Design & Technology


Students developed their ability to cut sections of pine using a tenon and coping saw. The next process involved students using sand paper to finish the edges at 90 degrees. The majority of the time students measured and marked out finger joints to create a square box. Students started to cuts the joints, testing their level of accuracy, tomorrow they will continue this process until they are ready to file.




MUSIC

Group I has learnt a song – ‘Sun is shining on my head’, they continued to practice percussion instruments and exploring parts of Guitar.



Group II has learnt song ‘My Rhythm’ on Drums and they continued to practice Guitar chords.

VISUAL ARTS

"Painting is easy when you don't know how, but very difficult when you do".


Students learnt how to make paper from paper pulp . They tore the news papers into small pieces   and make paper pulp.  Everybody could complete two works each.

Rediscovering Minds June 4th


DANCE

"I am a Gummy Bear" was the song for our budding dancers....... the joy can be seen from their expressions. 

Design & Technology


Today is the third session of the rediscovering minds. Students went into the workshop for the first time, they got a demonstration about health and safety rules. The next step was measuring and marking using a steel ruler and an engineer square after that they started cutting using a tenon and coping saw. These are the first stages creating a frame for the clock project.


Group II is working hard on their project of clock, the 3D picture can be seen in the collage made by children now they are measuring and cutting the woods to make it real. 

ICT

Group I had a “Make your Funny Pic” Day. They all clicked their own pictures using the front camera and then edited them using Facetouch to create funny versions of themselves.

Group II was introduced to the traditional method of animation, which was done through a series of drawings and then playing them in succession. They used http://www.abcya.com/animate.htm for that.

MUSIC

Group I has learnt how to play a simple 4 beat rhythm on percussion instruments and they explored Guitar by strumming and by learning names of the 6 strings. Group II has learnt chords- E minor, G Major, C Major and A minor on Guitar. They also learnt how to play drum role on Drum kit. Children are really enjoying the music sessions with variety of instruments..... especially those played by the rock stars, they are not only touching and feeling but even playing and acquiring knowledge about these.

DRAMA

Group I- Warm up fun game based on animals and  enacted the story- “Purple Turtle"......Take away’s- Identified feelings, emotions, spontaneity, confidence to perform, decision making and problem solving.


Group II- Children in drama created a story and dialogues to make a play...... they are enjoying this experience of being a story narrator lets see what a final story come up with........  Take away’s- Imagination, making connections, listening  & speaking skills, understanding & respecting different perspectives.

 INDOOR SPORTS

Children are acquiring swimming skills and those who already know swimming their skills are being finely tuned up. There are few of them who enjoy playing dry games outside the water so they are enjoying with squash, badminton and chess.
